The Problem
An elderly couple in Spring Valley reached out after one of them experienced a bad fall in the hallway. Their home wasn’t designed for aging — narrow doorways, slippery tile, high tub edge, and poor lighting.
They weren’t ready to move out — but staying safe at home meant making changes fast.
The Redline Solution: ADA Design for Aging in Place
We walked the home and built a custom ADA Senior Upgrade Plan tailored to their space, needs, and mobility level.
✅ What We Upgraded:
🚪 Doorways
– Widened to 36” for walker access
– Replaced all knobs with lever-style handles
🛁 Bathroom
– Removed tub, installed zero-threshold shower
– Slip-resistant tile and built-in bench
– Reinforced wall for grab bars
– ADA-height toilet with side clearance
– Roll-under sink option added
🌙 Lighting
– Motion sensor lights in hallway and bathroom
– Added overhead lighting in entry and kitchen
– Smart switch controls + voice-enabled setup
🪟 Flooring
– Removed slick tile
– Installed ADA-rated vinyl planks with grip texture
🛠 Safety
– Raised electrical outlets and lowered switches
– No-step entry with slope ratio under 1:12
– Front pathway widened and regraded
📍 Why Spring Valley Was the Right Time + Place
Spring Valley’s layout allowed for smooth ramp design and flexible interior modifications. Plus, the couple received a small accessibility grant from a local organization — we helped coordinate all documentation.
💬 Ronnie’s Take:
“This wasn’t about making a ‘medical-looking’ home.
